The Gardens

The gardens at Chickadee & Pine are meant to feel soft, welcoming, and a little unruly in the best way. Flowers bloom along paths and around sitting places, softening the edges of the cabin and cottage, and outdoor spaces.

In the spring and summer, the garden feels full of color and movement. In the fall, seed heads, leaves, and fading blooms bring a quieter kind of beauty. Even in winter, there is texture in the moss, branches, and evergreens.

When the season allows, we often bring fresh flowers indoors for guests. The garden is part of how we care for the experience here—not something separate from it.

Birds at Chickadee & Pine

Birdsong is one of the first things many guests notice in the morning. Chickadees, humingbirds, crows, and other island birds move through the property throughout the day, bringing life and sound to the trees and garden edges.

Some arrive boldly at the feeder. Others stay tucked into in the branches, heard before they are seen. If you sit for a while with a cup of coffee, there is almost always something to notice.

Wildlife Around the Property

Whidbey Island has its own gentle kind of wildness, and you feel that here. Depending on the season and the hour, guests may hear frogs singing at dusk, spot deer moving quietly through the landscape, or catch sight of other small visitors along the garden paths.

in early spring, the tiny Pacific chorus frogs begin their evening serenade. Their voices rise together in a surprisingly loud chorus, filling the air with the sound of the season changing.

These are not staged encounters or guaranteed. They are simply part of being in a place where the natural world still feels close.

A Place to Notice Things

Chickadee & Pine was created to help people slow down, and the birds, gardens, and wildlife are part of that. They invite a different pace—one where you look up, listen longer, and begin to notice the small things agan.

For many guests, that becomes one of the most memorable parts of a stay: not one grand event, but the feeing of being somewhere alive.grand event, but the feeling of being somewhere alive.
