The Goat Barn Studio
A grown-up clubhouse tucked into the woods on Whidbey Island.
Before it became a creative studio, the Goat Barn had a long and lively life.
It started as our kids’ fort, a place for big imaginations and muddy boots. It was home to our daughter's small herd of milking goats and, the cutest baby goats in the world.
When the goats moved on, we couldn’t bear to let the space sit quiet. With a little vision, a lot of negotiating with family, and more than a few long months of consturction, we transformed it into the cozy, slightly funky studio it is today.
Somehow, it never quite lost that childhood clubhouse feeling.
A Place to Make Things
The rugs are worn from years of good times. There are half-used tubes of paint, boxes of pastels, old pencils, and sketchbooks waiting for someone to pick them up.
We’ve filled the barn with books, records, games, puzzles, and curious things collected over the years.
It’s a space we care for and thoughtfully tend, but nothing is too precious. You’re welcome to spread out, pick up an old hobby, try something new, or simply enjoy an afternoon without feeling like you need to accomplish anything
Make Yourself at Home
In the cooler months, warmth comes from the wood stove. This old barn isn’t insulated, so tending the fire is part of the experience. Or curl up on the couch beneath the electric blanket, put on a movie, and enjoy something warm to drink while the rain falls outside.
And dogs are very much welcome. There’s a big fluffy dog bed waiting near the wood stove, because a good clubhouse should always have room for your best friend.
Bring your knitting, a half-finished painting, a book you’ve been meaning to read, or nothing at all.
There’s no schedule, no class to attend, and certainly no expectation that you need to create a masterpiece.
